How to remove tree of heaven (Ailanthus altissima)

Wear gloves: the sap can cause skin rashes. Pull seedlings. Pull saplings with a weed lever or cut them, but they resprout, so follow up. Take out female (seed) trees first. Big trees can be cut, but they resprout unless the cut stump is treated right away with concentrated herbicide (glyphosate or triclopyr); repeated follow-up cutting can also control the sprouts. Foliar spray works on seedlings, short saplings and sprouts you can reach the top of. Follow the herbicide label.
