Virginia invasive plant sign kit for nurseries and garden centers

Sources (4)
From January 1, 2027, every display of these 39 plants needs a sign.Under Va. Code § 3.2-3801.1, a Virginia retail establishment selling any of 39 listed invasive plants for outdoor use must post signage near each display that identifies the plant as invasive, educates customers and encourages them to ask about alternatives. If the sign is missing, VDACS issues a stop-sale order and tags the plant until the sign is posted.

What the rules say (and where)

The 39 species are listed in the Code section. Sign format and content come from VDACS’s Guidance on Invasive Plant Species Signage Requirements at Retail Establishments: use the VDACS template sign from the Nursery Inspection page or your own design with the required statements, at least 8.5 × 11 inches, in close proximity to each display. The QR code and URL must point to DCR’s invasive plant species page. Full plant list: the 39 plants.

Free option: VDACS posts its own template signs for free. This kit is for stores that want every species pre-filled, with a store-name header, a native-alternatives panel and a checklist, ready to print.
